Shinnoki at Daymark: A Smart Choice for Multi-Unit Residential Design
INTRODUCING EDGE ON HUDSON BY COOKFOX ARCHITECTS
COOKFOX Architects contacted Robin Reigi to collaborate on their Daymark / Edge on Hudson development, a large-scale, multi-unit residential community on the Hudson River in Sleepy Hollow, NY.
The Daymark, a central residential component of this project, called for timeless, durable, and beautiful finishes. From the start, the design team showed a strong interest in Shinnoki by Decospan and quickly selected Frozen Walnut and Ivory Oak as their finishes of choice.
ABOUT THE DAYMARK PROJECT
The Daymark at Edge on Hudson is a luxury condominium with over 100 residences. It is designed to balance natural light, open layouts, and refined materials. As a key piece of the larger waterfront redevelopment, it offers private residences as well as shared amenity spaces. COOKFOX designed the building with their signature mix of modernist precision and natural sensibility, ensuring interiors feel both sophisticated and welcoming.
“At The Daymark, discerning homebuyers immediately appreciate the refined quality of Shinnoki. Its authentic wood grain brings a warm, luxurious feel that far exceeds classic laminates."

SHINNOKI’S ROLE IN THE DESIGN
The continuity of Shinnoki across private and communal areas creates a natural flow, reinforcing COOKFOX’s intention for materials to feel connected. The rich tone of Frozen Walnut grounds each interior, balancing sleek detailing with the warmth of real wood. Ivory Oak provides a contrasting lightness, giving kitchens and bathrooms a clean, contemporary look that can handle everyday use.
Frozen Walnut was installed throughout kitchens and pantries in individual residences and extended to walls, closets, and shelving in shared amenity spaces. Ivory Oak was applied in kitchens and bathrooms, where its matte finish complements natural light and smooth surfaces.
"Thanks to Shinnoki’s large-scale fabrication, each residence is outfitted with precision—perfectly aligned with the elevated design standards that define The Daymark.”

WHY SHINNOKI FITS MULTI-UNIT RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS
Large-scale multi-unit residential developments demand consistent, cost-effective, and visually elevated materials. Shinnoki delivers on all three.
For developers, it simplifies procurement and reduces finishing costs. For contractors and millworkers, it shortens installation time and ensures uniform results. And for architects, it achieves the warm, natural look of real wood with remarkable reliability.
Unlike traditional veneering that requires matching, pressing, and finishing, Shinnoki panels arrive ready to use, prefinished with a durable topcoat and balanced design. This saves valuable shop time and eliminates the variability that often comes with raw veneer work.
ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE AND PERFORMANCE-DRIVEN
Made by Decospan, a leader in sustainable manufacturing, Shinnoki combines European craftsmanship with modern efficiency. It offers a material that’s both environmentally responsible and performance-driven. The result is a consistent, high-quality wood solution that meets multi-unit residential construction’s cost, schedule, and design demands.
Robin Reigi’s team provides direct support throughout the process, from sampling and finish consultation to technical guidance, helping the architects confidently specify Shinnoki across multiple interior environments.
“Natural materials, patterns, and textures promote occupant health and wellbeing.”

WHY THE COOKFOX DESIGN TEAM CHOSE SHINNOKI
Interior architects Phillip Seclan, Charles Lent, and the COOKFOX team explored many veneer options before selecting Shinnoki. They needed a material that felt organic yet consistent, with a matte finish that could withstand daily use. Shinnoki by Decospan provided that balance.
Each panel features a brushed, stained, and lacquered surface applied in a six-layer process. The finish resists scratches, protects against spills, and maintains a soft-touch feel without masking the wood’s grain. Read more about the new Shinnoki finishes and view the palette of eighteen stains and species.
With eighteen stains and species to choose from, the team found a palette that conveyed both warmth and precision. The full project pallet includes Frozen Walnut, Ivory Oak, Milk Oak, and Ivory Infinite Oak. Purchasers can select the final finish for their home from this palette.
WHAT GENERAL CONTRACTORS AND MILLWORKERS VALUE MOST
Finishing can be the hardest part of any project for millworkers and general contractors working on multi-unit developments. Natural veneer panels vary widely in color and grain, making matching them during fabrication time-consuming and expensive.
Each Shinnoki panel arrives prefinished, perfectly color-matched, and ready to install. Millworkers can skip the finishing line entirely, focusing instead on precision and craftsmanship. The consistency also means fewer site adjustments, less waste, and predictable timelines.
General contractors value that same efficiency. Shinnoki’s ready-to-use panels reduce the number of trades required for interior build-out, help maintain project schedules, and deliver a high-quality finish that lasts.

“Shinnoki helps millworkers focus on craftsmanship rather than corrections—delivering a premium, natural wood look with the efficiency today’s projects demand.”

HOW DECOSPAN AND RUGBY SUPPORTED THE PROJECT
Rugby ABP, Shinnoki’s distributor in the New York metro area, partnered with Decospan’s sales team, led by Dean Hogan, to support CMD Group, the general contractor and millworker for Daymark.
Decospan collaborated closely with CMD Group to refine yields, optimize panel sizes, and provide value engineering support. This coordination ensured maximum material efficiency and consistency across more than 1,000 sheets supplied for the project.
Decospan’s manufacturing process prioritizes precision in color, grain, and sheen. That control gives developers and contractors confidence that what’s specified at design is exactly what arrives at installation.
Their partnership provided the reliability and material consistency essential for multi-unit residential construction, where efficiency and design precision are equally critical.
“With Shinnoki, the color and quality are already there. It saves hours of work and a lot of frustration on site.”
Dean Hogan, Decospan
A SMART MATERIAL CHOICE FOR THE DEVELOPERS: CMD GROUP
For developers of multi-residential projects, Shinnoki offers a practical balance of design quality and cost control. Its prefinished panels minimize finishing labor, shorten lead times, and reduce on-site variables. The result is a consistent, high-end finish that enhances property value while keeping budgets in check.
Shinnoki demonstrates how intelligent material selection can benefit every stakeholder, from the architect’s vision to the developer’s investment to the millworker’s craftsmanship, especially in multi-unit residential projects where quality and efficiency define long-term value.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS THAT ADD MARKET VALUE
COOKFOX is recognized for advancing sustainable and biophilic design in contemporary architecture. Their projects highlight the relationship between people, place, and nature. At Edge on Hudson, their approach integrates natural textures with urban living, creating interiors that encourage comfort and connection.
The selection of Shinnoki supported that mission. Manufactured in Belgium by Decospan, recognized as a Factory of the Future, Shinnoki carries a verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), providing transparency and accountability for its environmental impact. For COOKFOX, these credentials aligned perfectly with the project’s sustainability goals while maintaining a refined, natural aesthetic.
For the developer and sales team, those same qualities translated into measurable value. Shinnoki’s durability, consistency, and certified sustainability became key selling points, giving buyers confidence in both craftsmanship and environmental performance. The result was a material choice that elevated design integrity while strengthening the project’s market appeal.
“We work tirelessly to design and advocate for a more sustainable future.”
