Shinnoki Mixmatch: Not Like Other Veneer Sequences
A NEW ERA OF WOOD VENEER PANELS
Shinnoki Mixmatch brings veneer into a new era. Unlike bookmatch or slipmatch, this system uses a patented machine to shuffle and splice up to seven trees. Each panel looks natural yet consistent from sheet to sheet. That makes it ideal for architects who need repeatable beauty at scale.

SLICING PATTERNS
Before we explain Mixmatch, let’s review common slicing patterns and veneer jointing techniques.
The way the veneer is sliced plays a vital role. It results in different patterns: from a flame pattern created by sawing through the heart of the tree to a straight grain pattern achieved by cutting perpendicular to the growth rings (either at a specific angle or not).

JOINTING TECHNIQUES
Veneer sheets can be joined together in multiple ways to create different patterns. All of these veneer styles use tight glue lines to ensure no visible gaps. The choice of look depends on preferences and end use. Commonly found patterns on the market include:
Bookmatch mirrors grain for a butterfly effect. Every other slice is flipped and butted so that the grain fans out symmetrically.
Slipmatch lines grain across panels without flipping. Sheets stay in natural order and are butted to flow grain smoothly.
Reverse Slipmatch flips every other sheet for subtle contrast. Flips each alternate panel, yet still lines up the grain.
Random Match blends sheets with no set order. Each joint uses precise gluing and splicing to hide seams. Pulls veneers from different logs, then arranges joints to balance color and figure.

SO, WHAT IS MIXMATCH?
Mixmatch is a signature and patented process by the manufacturer, Decospan.
- First, expert graders sort veneers by quality and grade.
- Then, a patented machine layers veneers from up to seven logs.
- Next, it shuffles slices, blending crown-cut and quarter-cut patterns.
- Finally, it panels them into a sheet that looks random but is controlled.
The beauty of Shinnoki is that you don’t have to choose a grade during the specification process. When the veneers are sorted, they are hand-selected for quality and grade. At Decospan, every single color of Shinnoki has a specific grading sheet. Download these grading description sheets from the Shinnoki website.
As a result, every Shinnoki Mixmatch panel feels like solid wood without awkward pattern repeats. Each panel looks natural yet consistent from sheet to sheet.
Shinnoki is the ideal choice for architects who need consistency that looks natural at scale.

“The different contrasts and variations of the wood come to the forefront and bring out the character and playfulness of the wood species.”

HOW TO SPECIFY SHINNOKI
When you specify Shinnoki Mixmatch, include these details:
Species: Oak, Triba, Sapele, Walnut, or Eucalyptus.
Thickness & Finish: Prefinished panels arrive ready to install.
Fire Rating: Class C is standard. Custom orders of over 50 panels are available in Class A.
